About Rivers Rutherford

With a name like Rivers Rutherford, it's no surprise this soulful storyteller was destined to become one of Nashville, Tennessee's (and music's) most talented and accomplished singer-songwriters. Having grown up in the shadow of Elvis' Graceland homestead of Memphis, Rutherford came out of the gates swinging, landing his first cut with American legends Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson (aka The Highwaymen). What followed were 8 #1 hits, multiple Grammys, CMA and ACM nominations, and over 20 ASCAP Awards, including both of the coveted awards for Country Song Of The Year and Songwriter Of The Year, all of which have firmly established Rutherford's position within the upper echelon of Nashville's most lauded songwriters.

"IT TAKES A VILLAGE" is the thinking and desire of the Foundation's efforts to involve the communities of Sapphire, Glenville, Tuckasegee and Cashiers with information and needs about Blue Ridge School and Early College to provide the very best education for the students. It is a belief that active involvement between the parents, business community, residents and the school's administration, faculty and students makes for success and pride for all parties.

Each year since the founding of the Foundation in 2002, grants requested for funding are made for educational needs of the school, which are not available from budgeted Jackson County Education Board allocations. The Foundation maintains an ongoing dialogue with the county school administration and with the school's administration and faculty to better understand how best to assist with supplemental funding.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the opening of Blue Ridge School. April 28th will be a day of celebration and an open house presentation by school students, administration and alumni for all who wish to attend.

History of the Cashiers Songwriters Round

The Annual "Nashville Songwriters'  Round" is the only fund raising benefit held by the Blue Ridge School Education Foundation each year.

Started eleven years ago the Song Writers' Round features Mr. Rivers Rutherford, an award winning songwriter, musician, vocalist and entertainer from Nashville, Tn. The show in 2015 featured Rivers with guest artist Roxie Dean and Robin Meade.

Each year, Mr. Rutherford comes to Cashiers, complementary,  with an invited group of fellow writers and entertainers to put on a concert for the benefit of the Foundation and its mission to support Blue Ridge School and Early College.

Proceeds of the event come from three level of Sponsors and ticket sales and well as individual donations. 100% of all the net proceeds from the concert are used by the Foundation to support the schools.
